I am a lecturer at Universidad del Rosario's diploma in Specialized translation. Memsource is part of the CAT tools module. My students love the program. They find it very useful and user-friendly. We translate general texts at the beginning of the module and technical text in the second half. The Academic Edition gives us all the features of the program, plus the option of assigning the PM role to some students. Therefore they can use it to prepare to be translators and project managers.
  • Create users with priorities
  • Clear analysis
  • Segmenting documents
  • Showing matches from TM and TB
  • QA
  • More management features like translators' availability or invoicing
  • Link to company website for quotes
  • OCR for PDF files
Well suited for technical texts, contracts, and general texts. Less appropriate as most cat tools for humanistic and artistic texts.

I've been using the free personal edition (it's a shame it's being discontinued) for a few years now as an occasional translator and it massively speeds up translation work. I've used a couple of other CAT tools in the past and Memsource is definitely the most user-friendly. Importing and exporting translation memories or term bases is a breeze, and another big plus is you can access your work wherever you are as long as you have an internet connection.
  • User-friendliness.
  • Cloud based.
  • Translation Memories.
  • Free version discontinued.
Because it's so easy to use, I'd say it's well suited for any situation where you regularly need to make translations.

We use Memsource to store and build our translation database in multiple languages and also assign work to translators directly in this software. The integration is great.
I've personally been using Memsource for almost 3 years now. The learning curve was rather smooth and it has been a pleasant product to use. I'm finding myself constantly learning about various features it offers as i've gotten more and more familiar with it.
  • Capacity to seamlessly store and build translation memories and term bases.
  • Capacity to easily assign projects to various providers.
  • Ease of use and friendly user interface.
  • I'd love to see better filter options in the projects tab. When having 50-100 active projects it can be hard to find specifics.
I'd recommend Memsource to any business dealing in translation work. This software offers both offline and online options for translators. It has a friendly user interface and is easy to pick up and learn.

Memsource is a very intuitive tool that I use for translations. AI helps a lot, is very easy to use, and minimal training is required. Smart revisions for quick and last-minute changes to the original document. Pre-translate documents based on various databases. Well-designed and user-friendly. The system lets you manage translation memories from old projects and also helps you create new translations.
  • Easy to learn.
  • Suggest partially translations for the TM.
  • Term Base.
  • Does not handle well tags in the translations.
The client delivers the text without filtering the online tags for some eLearning products, primarily webpage-generated eLearning, and Memsource may have a mechanism to filter the web tags for the actual translation, for instance.

I use Memsource in order to translate different kind of texts such as videogames and perform LQA Testing. The best problem it solves is the fact that you can work online in the cloud. You do not need to download anything and you got everthing safe and always stored, which is appreciated so you cannot lose any progress if something fails.
  • user friendly UI
  • very used among most of the companies
  • enhances productivity
  • difficult to understand the several options for different files extensions
  • real time file update when working with more people in the same project
Is well suited for videogames with several strings. It allows you to focus in each string separately and look for tags cautiously. Also, the shortcuts are really useful for games translation. Doing LQA Testing is also easy and it shows you clearly the errors in the segments, so you can fix them asap. In other translation ambits such as literary, it is not very appropiate.

I translate articles from English to Arabic. You can find my translations here: https://ar.danielpipes.org/ Memsource made my life easier by helping me to maintain a translation memory and a term base. I also teach translation using Memsource to some students who aspire and have the gift to become future translators.
  • It is an AI-powered translation software
  • It can be integrated with many machine translation engines
  • You can use it on PC or Mac
  • You may use the online web version or the desktop editor
  • The mobile application makes it easy to manage and even work on your translation jobs on the go
  • Memsource developers are working hard currently to add some amazing features that will be announced in the coming weeks. So, stay tuned!
For each article I translate, I create a new job, assign it to a linguist, track progress, and proofread the translation after they finish.

I have been using Memsource software regularly for more than two years. My overall experience has been positive. I used it four years ago for less than one month, but it was not as easy to use as it is now. I rarely encounter technical problems similar to other computer-assisted translation tools. The free version, offers everything a beginner or a student needs.
  • Translation memories
  • Term bases
  • concordance
  • Formatting
Memsource is a very good tool for translators who need to venture into computer-assisted translation. It is also good for companies who need to preserve the confidentiality of their materials as they can stop the linguists from downloading the translation memories and the term bases that were generated by the company.

We have been using Memsource for many years, not as a personal choice I must say but rather as a tool requested by some of our clients. It is certainly a very intuitive tool that one can start using literally within minutes (more so than other online tools of this kind). What I believe it lacks is some more personalization, for instance for those linguists who like to speed up work by using keyboard shortcuts. Another critical issue, at least in our experience, is that it does not encourage advanced users who employ it to set up large projects to do it in a way that can accelerate the all-important QA process, which is often too long and not at all conducive to an improvement of the final product. A few adjustments to improve this final stage would be very welcome.
  • Filters
  • Segment saving time.
  • QA
  • Keyboard shortcuts/Personalization.
Well suited to a short text, less well suited to large, technical projects, where termbases are very important.

I have been using Memsource for a number of years and it never failed me. It helped me grow my business and clients were very happy with the output. It is easy to use and it is innovative. It is user-friendly and the features are great. Definitely one of the best CAT I've used.
  • Add terms and phrases.
  • Remembers similar translations of words and terms.
  • Interface is easy to understand.
  • I can't really think of anything.
It is very user-friendly and affordable. If you are still starting out in the translation industry, I would advise using this online tool. It is very convenient to use as well. As it is an online tool, I can use a different machine or log in to another computer while traveling.

We use Memsource in our junior enterprise for project management and integration of all stages of the translation of a document, from the creation and assignment of the project to the final delivery of the translated and reviewed document and its Translation Memory and Term Base data. Memsource supports basically all formats and integrates it to an external drive account like Google Drive. It also allows the project manager to follow up live the progress of the whole project and helps them save, organize and manage relevant data such as language pair, direction, number of words, segments and chars, subject, client, etc.
  • Project Management
  • Document Preview
  • Translation Memory
  • Term Base
  • Project Progress
  • Project Information
  • Memsource Integration with other tools.
  • Inserting information for the project, since you have to save beforehand to the creation of the project, since the information like the subject, name of the client, and subject area will not appear if you haven't inserted them earlier.
  • Memsource layout and loading speed of its system.
Memsource is suited when you want to manage and translate documents with a big translation team and information and data have to be shared and built together. Memsource is not suited for subtitling and localization projects as well as for companies with new clients and areas of expertise and acting coming up all the time, regarding the insertion of project database taking too long to start the project.

I've been using the free version of Memsource for many years. This software has all the functionalities required to achieve a high-quality translation. It shares the same features as other expensive CAT tools in the market and provides the same efficiency. I can upload my large TM, add my projects and files, and select the pair of languages. As it is cloud-based, it's very handy at any moment, with any PC, wherever you are. Honestly, I've never had to write about any bug. It has worked smoothly all throughout.
  • Nice interface
  • Easy to use
  • Complete functionalities
  • Cloud-based accesibility
  • Zero down-time
  • When editing a translation and performing the search for a word or phrase, you need to use the browser F3 function, and if the item to be found is beyond the text currently displayed on the screen, you need to scroll down to load more text. This is the usual disadvantage of cloud-based CAT tools.
I recommend the free version of Memsource for translators processing small to middle-sized files, and would definitely recommend upgrading if the need to process larger files arise. I have not yet used the Team version, but I guess it runs with the same efficiency.

I translate Dutch to English for an auctioneering concern that only works online. I find that the predictive text provided as managed by the employer is not edited frequently enough and that faulty translation created by non-native speakers are repeated. When preparing text the words predicted are often a repeat of the incorrect words from memory or repeating the actual word one is correcting. However, in the broader sense, the system works well and enables far quicker translation of bulk items that in our sphere consist of from 2 to 30 words at a time. The quality control function is great especially when it relates to the correctness of numerical values in the translated portion.
  • Direct translations usually accurate to a rate of over 70%.
  • Spelling checking.
  • Quality control.
  • Speed of response via cloud even when multiple users are online.
  • Choice of dictionaries - ie from USA English to UK English- removing the "Z"s and inserting the "U"s (i.e. realize to realise and honor to honour, etc.
  • Auto removal of duplications whilst translating by highlighting any that appear.
  • Providing a bulk correct function - similar to the Find and Replace function in Excel!
I find the system excellent for the translation of small items up to 100 words. However, where it tends to transcribe and not translate the function will need improvement - source language syntax in the translated form does not always compute.

Memsource is a very useful platform for translators. As a freelance translator, I use it with several companies since 2019. Nice and user-friendly interface, rapidity of translation, handy termbases, and translation memories. The platform helps to establish good and easy professional communication between the translation company and the translator. Highly recommend.
  • Suggestions of other segments where a certain term already appears are very helpful.
  • Ability to use with various document/file formats
  • Automatic saving of work progress
  • Sometimes when I completed my work, the access to my Memsource account is blocked.
  • The machine translation should be available when needed without any restrictions
  • Online version can be slow
As a self-employed translator, it has given me access to many jobs with agencies I would not otherwise have been able to take on. Overall it increased my versatility and productivity. It is very helpful in getting consistent translations of recurring phrases. I can't think of anything not appropriate.

I have used Memsource for 2 years and enjoy it.
  • The synching of the desktop app with the online app is great and very helpful.
  • It is easy to look for all segments containing a specific term and correct them in a batch.
  • Suggestions of other segments where a certain term already appears are very helpful.
  • The online version can be very slow when working on large documents, or maybe during heavy internet use globally. But the desktop app basically solved this problem for me.
  • I think more than anything, working with tags is the most challenging for me because I don't fully understand how they work and sometimes, getting them right seems impossible. I would appreciate a comprehensive tutorial on the subject.
Certainly, Memsource helps a lot in focusing just on the text and leaving formatting issues for later. It is also very helpful in getting consistent translations of recurring phrases.
One general issue for CAT tools is that when working with unformatted segments, one tends to lose sight of the overall picture. This sometimes results in certain translations ending up inconsistent or inaccurate simply because the context is not as immediately apparent as when translating directly from the source document. This just means more teamwork is needed to finish off the document, and this is a great feature of Memsource - reassembling the segments into a coherent document that looks like the original!

I use Memsource to translate between Czech and English
  • very good machine translation
  • possibility to work both online and offline
  • easy to work with, easy editing
  • British English!!! Memsource knows what British spelling should be but MT offers US English and underlines the US spelling as wrong for British English.
  • MT does not use termbase. MT yellows the expression that is in the TB but does not offer it in the translation, instead makes up its own translation (typically abbreviation) instead of inserting the TB word
  • Localisation of numbers. On the continent we write the decimal coma but in English it is the decimal point. Can there be a button to convert such numbers easily?
Memsource is well suited for any translator as well as translation agency. You save all translated segments in a cloud - they cannot get stuck in your computer - you can instantly deliver without having to write an email, and you can search older translations for terminology very easily. Clear layout, easy to use. But when you try to use the trial version, you don't get the quality of MT as you get when it is paid for. So not good for one-off translations. Thank you for the product.

Memsource is a very useful platform for translators. As a freelance translator, I use it in almost every project with several companies since 2016. Nice and user-friendly interface, rapidity of translation, handy termbases, and translation memories: this all positive features I can say while describing Memsource. The platform helps to establish good and easy professional communication between the translation company and the translator. Highly recommend.
  • Fast and accurate target text substitution from translation memory
  • Visualization of the original file at the bottom of the page
  • Combination of several documents into one when translating
  • Automatic saving of work progress
  • Automatic text formatting
  • Sometimes when I completed my work, the access to my Memsource account is blocked. It will be better to unblock it in this kind of situation
  • Maybe add a progress line in percentage in Memsource editor. Сurrently I have to reload the main page in order to check my progress
  • The machine translation should be available when needed without any restrictions
The translation of big texts with repetitions can be perfectly done in Memsource. Last time I worked on a big project with one company. The project contained about 15 documents with repetitions. Thanks to Memsource I combined these documents in one working file and saved a lot of time for translation. Small projects without repetitions can be translated manually.

I am a freelance translator and proofreader in multiple languages and dialects for companies around the world. Memsource allows me to provide fast turnaround times for clients/project managers as well as maintain consistency in terminology.
  • Translation memory in multiple dialects for localization
  • Efficient organization of projects for each client
  • Ability to use with various document/file formats
  • Ability to divide term bases by client
  • Ability to upload terms from a file into term base to use or update
  • More user-friendly tag instructions for insertion or deletion
I love that I can work on multiple projects in multiple languages and still have the ability to move effortlessly between them as needed.

A very convenient CAT, saving lots of time, helping to ensure consistency, making work pleasant and efficient.
  • Translation memories allow to use wording from past documents very easily.
  • Term bases are convenient.
  • Quality assurance helps identify areas to have an additional look at.
  • Spell check in the document allows to correct typos as you go.
  • Comments allow to share doubts with the team.
  • Downloading the bilingual version, uploading the bilingual version are very helpful when you want to see the file in the form of a table.
  • ALL CAPS - still not sure if you have this
Team work and individual translator, a specialist translating from time to time as a hobby or for specialist work purposes - it will help them ideally.

In our translation company, we use Memsource every day to process many different file types and get word count analysis which is helpful for our quote stage and then assign translators to actually do the work and deliver it back to us. We also use Memsorce to run quality assurance and ensure our delivery is up to standard.
  • Processing files with Memsource is quite easy and it can understand the correct type and rules most of the time successfully.
  • Setting up a project and assigning it, briefly getting something started and going ahead is simple which is great as we need speed and ease during the day when dealing with many simultaneous jobs.
  • TM management is easier than some other CAT tools I tried, collecting all languages into a TM is creating less clutter.
  • Definitely, it would be great to somehow improve the QA function, maybe by AI etc - but this needs to be studied and improved for each language separately. For example, Arabic is not particularly well functioning and creating false positives.
  • It would have been great to select UK English as default EN instead of anytime we put a source file as English it understands US English and checks spelling by that which creates false positives.
  • It was great to have the option to convert INDD to IDML but now it does not allow uploading INDD files thus we have to either get IDML from clients or convert ourselves but no one has an InDesign license waiting on each computer in a company.
I would definitely recommend it to project managers working in a translation company due to how easy, online, fast, and consistent the system is because more than likely you'll be multitasking, and no need to deal with downloading and packages, etc. Instead, you can just get a project started or simply get your analyse and do a quote and leave there knowing it'll be saved and be there when you need to search for it.

We've been using Memsource to support our clients looking for a simple solution that helps them get their files translated in a timely manner while keeping everything consistent thanks to the use of translation memories, termbases and a commenting feature to handle all context-related queries from translators, proofreaders, and editors.
  • It's cloud-based, meaning it will likely work on any machine.
  • Not overloaded with features, offers a clean UI.
  • Relatively affordable.
  • Sometimes it's quite slow, even despite an excellent Internet connection.
  • Not all features are available for translators from the get-go, for example, only PM can upload/download a translation memory in TMX format which is quite a hassle if you have translators exporting everything into other tools.
  • QA tools are somewhat weak, too many false-positives, which can be very annoying to ignore.
Memsource is perfect for small-medium sized translation agencies that want to handle translation projects more efficiently, while leveraging the power of translation memory. It's definitely not the best online CAT tool on the market, but it gets the job done quite well, although, for their price tag, they could've spent a bit more time on ironing out the user experience.
